Question
Hello, there is no analog output from cd unit SL-PJ38A,only digital output, and this slots into the digital connector on input on amplifier. The only other input/output connectors on units are for system remote control, and they are in sequence. Thanks for your time.

You went too fast for me. I don't understand what is going on. Can you explain it in more detail?

What is the SL-pj38a?  I know it is a turntable, but which one?

Help me out here, please.

I think you are talking about the digital OUTPUT, are you not.  This cd player does not have inputs.

In any event, try using the analog output into the amplifier.

If analog works, you may have a compatibility problem. A set this old is probably not using the latest AES Spidif standard for digital interface.

To troubleshoot you must check one item and one connection at a time and by process of elimination narrow the problem down to the specific input or output that is not functioning correctly.

Here are the rules:

OUT means a signal is coming out of that box.
IN means a signal goes into that box.

Connect the proper output from one box into another.  If it does not function as expected there is either an equipment problem, interface incompatibility, defective cables or miswiring, etc.

Hope this helps.

Answer
Thanks.  Actually, that is a different model than the one I had in mind.

Under the circumstances you describe I am wondering if the digital modulator is defective. OR, could be the digital interface amp in the unit.  Since you do hear something when the level is set to max it means there is an audio signal somewhere in the works.

But, the evidence is there is something defective internally in the player.  The only other thing I can conceive is the input connection on SU has shorted input circuitry and is placing a severe load on the driver in the player.

Wish I could solve it more definitively for you. Sorry.
