Audio Systems: Radio Backlight, cold cathode, incandescent bulbs

Question
hey, I have a 98 Sunfire and my Radio/clock's backlights have burnt out. Im thinking it should be LED's but im not quite sure. I also dont know how to remove the cover to get in behind the screen. if you could help that would be great. or if you could refer me to someone who might know that would be great too. thanks for your help

Answer
if they're really LEDs they pretty much never burn out.  LEDs burn like a few people's lifetimes long.
I dont think they use standard incandescent bulbs cuz they get hot and burn out quick.
My guess is that either there's a wiring problem and the LEDs are fine.  or, if its a good aftermarket unit, they used cold cathode type backlights.  these burn out after about 8000+ hours which is quite long but however can burn out if used alot or sometimes, the circuitry driving them burns out before the bulbs 8000 hours is up.
You didnt say wether it was a factory unit or aftermarket.  if its factory, just replace it.  if aftermarket, disconnect the orange wire, see if that helps,  If it's a detachable face you may be able to get a new face.
As for repair, I wouldnt attempt it.
