Audio Systems: Pre-wiring, gauge speaker wire, private option

Question
Hi Jerry, I'm finishing my basement and would like to rewire for surround sound etc.  I'd like to possible hook up my TV to separate speakers say in the ceiling etc. Is it best to have the TV and Stereo together and speakers say in the ceiling?  I don't quit know where to run my wiring and I'd like to get started on this because it's hanging me up.  Also is there any particular wiring for audio I should use?  Than for any help or ideas.

Answer
Hello, Doug.

Speakers in the ceiling:
Is it possible? Sure.
Is it best? Probably not, and for many reasons for most people.

Running TV and stereo together:
As long as the wiring all reaches, there are very few limits to where they each can be located, physically.

In most cases, getting it setup correctly will be a trade off between what you want, what you have to work with (budget/room/audio components..ect) and what your expectations are.

If you would really want a concise answer, please re-ask this using the 'private' option (as was indicated on the page which ended up sending this email). I can then elaborate on all of these topics.

Please let me know what you have component-wise.

It is not realistic to put 500.00 worth of wire on a $1000 home theatre, so I could not advise you on what is 'best' with so little specific information given about your system.
But generically, get you some 14-16 gauge speaker wire with good insulation (not lamp cord!).
