Audio Systems: cd player dead, motor drive electronics, radio head

Question
My in dash cd player worked perfectly fine the other day, the next day it wont turn on anymore. What do you think is wrong with it?

Answer
Do you know how to check the 12v line?  Do you have a vom and know how to use it?  If so, that is the first place to start; make sure it is getting voltage; if not, find out why.  Can be a fuse or even a broken wire.  If it is integrated into the radio head unit maybe it is an internal problem.

If it IS getting the 12v and does not come ON it may be a defective motor, drive electronics, etc.  in which case it will need servicing or replacement.

As a general rule, cd players are not economical to repair; replacement is mostly the best route to go.

I recommend you use www.crutchfield.com as the best place to find out which models will be compatible with your particular automobile.  You do not have to purchase your unit from them, but if you do, they supply you with wiring diagram and cable connector for your car and your unit.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
