Audio Systems: putting my alpine cd player into a toyota camry 96., alpine cd, rca outputs

somebody had disabled the radio/cassette deck and below it had installed a not so good head unit. I want to put my alpine in it's place and reconnect the cassette deck so both work. Does this make sense?

sure, that makes sense,  there are a few ways of doing it.  first thing is to get power to the tape deck, if you have that already, then we can move on to the next step.  If not let me know.
Assuming you have power to the deck, one way to make both the tape and alpine work would be:
Get the alpine AUX input adapter if your alpine accepts it seen here:

and since most tape decks dont have RCA outputs (if it does you're lucky but I doubt it) you'll need to convert the speaker outputs from the tape deck to rca levels like this:

so basically what will happen is that anything the tapedeck plays comes out of the deck's speaker outputs, gets converted down to RCA levels and goes into the alpine's aux input and comes out your speakers when AUX is selected on the alpine.  

The other way to do it instead would be to run an amplifier after the alpine (between the alpine and all of your speakers) and use this switcher:

you need that line out converter with this method too.  this way costs more but there are alot of advantages,  one is that the first option has 2 volume controls in tandem which is confusing (the tape deck's volume is adjustable and so is the alpine and they affect eachother when using the tape) doing it this way keeps the volume controlls separate (cd volume only controls cd, tape deck volume only controls tape)  the other thing you could probably do with this option is make it so that turning on the tape deck automatically switches to tape, there's no AUX input to select on the cd player, it would just work more seemlessly.  the other advantage is the amplifier adds power to your system.
