Answer
do you remember if the protect light normally came on and went out?  this is normal for alot of amps.  they turn on in protec mode and once they check themselvs out the light goes off.  kinda like a computer booting up checks itself first before you can use it.  If you dont remember if it always does that we can assume its ok and theres some other problem. if we check that stuff and its ok, maybe there is a problem.
Check your fueses, if you have a meter check that you're getting a good 12-13.8 volts or so at the amplifier's power lines and that the remote line turns on with the cd player or car (however you have it wired).  again if you have a meter you can disconnect the subwoofer wires and put your meter across them. (dont try it connected to the amplifier, it wont give the right reading) it should read close to whatever ohms the sub is rated for.  you can also test the sub by putting a 9 volt battery across the wires (NOT WITH THE AMPLIFIER CONNECTED) the sub should make a nice loud click with a good 9 volt battery,  dont hold it on there just strike it across the terminals.
let me know how that goes first. we'll go from there.
