Audio Systems: AIWA CDC-x227, aiwa cdc, focus adjustment

Question
I just got a new car and it has an AIWA CDC-X227 CD player.  The CD player just recently stopped playing CDs.  WHen I try to play a CD, the screen says ERROR 3 on it.  Can you tell me if this is repairable or if I will have to just buy a new CD player?

Answer
It is always repairable, but at what cost. Generally, the error3 is an indication of the laser diode getting too weak or out of focus adjustment.  These replacement/repairs are very expensive and in most cases you are better off just replacing it (unless it is still under warranty) due to the very low cost of new head units.

So many of the new users are dropping cds in favor of iPod compatible and mp3 players which can be carried with you when you leave the car.  Think about that.

This model is a low cost, low power unit and you will get a big improvement in sound by stepping up to a more powerful unit anyway - and it won't cost much to upgrade.  I like crutchfield.com for comparisons of what is avaiable that fits your car.
