Audio Systems: AUTO HEAD UNIT, marqes, ford wiring

Question
I INSTALLED A RADIO IN MY 1991 GRAN MARQES EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED THE RIGHT WAY BUT I CAN GET NO SOUND

Answer
You will need to check out the unit and the wiring.  First and easiest may be the  wiring; go to this pdf and follow the ford motor wiring harnass guide carefully to make sure you have the speaker and power wires connected properly:

If you are sure you have it connected right, you may have to bring the head unit out and bench test it.  Before doing so, go to walmart hardware department and acquire their $9.83 volt meter. Use this to measure the voltage of the 12 volt feed to the head unit.

You can also use the ohmmeter section of the vom to check wiring from the output of the amps to the speakers.

You are going to find the problem is either the power is not getting to the unit; the speakers are not wired up correctly OR the unit is defective.

Unfortunately, sometimes you think it is wired correctly; it gets fired up and the miswiring causes the unit to blow internally.  That is the worst of all worlds! ! Hope this is not the case here.

let me know if you need more help.
