Audio Systems: 900 MHz Transmitter for Wireless Speakers, fm modulation, wireless speakers

Question
I have an RCA wireless Speaker system that needs a new transmitter. It transmits
in the 911.4 to 918.4 Mhz range with FM modulation. The system was made by
RCA exclusively for Radio Shack which no longer sells the product and has no
replacement parts. The model number is 40-5029. There is no such number on
the RCA web site. The speakers are excellent quality and it would be a shame to
trash them. Is there a way to adapt a different transmitter to do the same job?

Answer
Hello,

I am familiar with this unit, it's a good question

You can give it a try, but here are a few ways in which the RCA may not be compatible with other similar systems:

Squelch tone-
Most wireless systems avoid playing loud static during interruptions in transmission by adding a high-pitched tone to the transmitter at a very specific frequency that is then  removed at the receiving end.  If the receiving speaker doesn't see this tone it mutes.
There is nothing I can find online to tell me what that squelch tone is for your RCA units, so I can't tell you for sure what a good match would be.

Signal Format-
Most of these systems aren't just like specialized radios, they actually convert the audio signal back to a special digital signal that is decoded back into audio at the other side.
This signal may or may not be proprietary for your unit, or it may be OEM'ed from some other manufacturer who's still making a compatible product.  Again, there is no industry standard and no resources I can find to say for sure.

I might suggest Ebay or save the receipt in case you have to make a return!

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, I do hope this helps.
