Audio Systems: Speakers cut out in the rain., mercury sable, speaker wiring

Question
I have a 92 Mercury Sable. If it rains over night even in heavy dew, I get no sound from my speakersin the morning. After 15 or 20 minutes they start to crackle and slowly come on one at a time.Where should I start looking? There is no water in the car.

Check the ground connection of the stereo, otherwise you should 'start' at Walmart or Circuit City!
While some stereos that old may work, a 1992 stereo that is having problems should be replaced. The headunit, speakers and speaker wiring are far past their intended lifespans.
