Audio Systems: DVD install, external amplifier, output impedance

Question
Hi I have a eurovox dvd player I was wondering how to hook it up so the sound is played through my speakers as my pioneer cd head unit doesnt have aux in I was thinking of an audio splitter.Any suggestions would be great Thanks

Answer
I need more information about the system (model numbers and whether you have a power amp) to give you a precise answer.

BUT: If you do not have aux in and if you do not have an external amplifier you cannot do it.

UNLESS:  You want to obtain a pair of extra speakers from the computer store and use them just for dvd sound. (These are very small, cheap and easy to install anywhere - but not good sound, particularly.

IF: You do have an external amp to drive the speakers and it is connected to the head via cables you can put in a splitter and feed the dvd audio into the amps.  DVD player must have volume control so you can change sound level.  And, you may need bridge pads if the output impedance of the head unit is too low, but you should be okey.

IF: You are an engineer (but if you were, you wouldn't be asking this question in the first place, I suppose!) and know circuits you can pull the head unit and build in an audio input with a little soldering and bringing out a stereo feed line with a jack on the end, but you must know what you are doing and know where to go in the head unit to make the input connection. Don't tackle this unless you are skilled in such things or you will do damage to the head unit.

Hope this gives you the ammunition you need.
