Audio Systems: Wiring problem ??, radio system, car battery
QuestionHi, Dont know if you can help at all. I have just purchased one of those Subs with a amp built in (active Fli Trap 12") I have a very basic radio system in my car and just wanted to add this to add a little bit of bass. I wired it all up and it was working fine and sounded good for what it is, after a couple of days all the electics went in my car whist i was driving!! i ended up having to buy a new car battery as the old one was flat. i have tried wiring it up again but the car will not start when it is wired up. The sub is connected to the +12v on the battery via a 20A fuse (this was included in the wiring kit i purchased seperatley) also the ground is fixed to the metal in the boot of the car. The sub also has a 20A fuse fitted to it. The problem is the remote connection telling the sub when to turn on and off(car stereo does not have one on it), i was told this was just a 12V connection so i wired this to the +12v wire which powers the head unit via a switch. Like i said it all worked fine for a few days before but dont know what is happening, have taken it out now as i dont want the car conking out when i am driving again !!! (is it because i am using the 12v which goes to the head unit, as i dont really want to start wiring things to the ignition etc)? have not got a clue ! any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Answersounds like you've done everything right. Maybe the unit's just defective? The only way that I can see this going terribly wrong is if you mixed up the trigger wire with the main power wire so you were drawing high current from that wire on the cd player. most likely though that would just blow a fuse and not cause all these other problems. Actually your alternator may be going bad if the battery died while the car was running. 20 amps isnt enough of a draw to do this with the car running unless there's somethign wrong with the alternator so I would get that checked out before you really do get stuck somewhere.
