Audio Systems: RCA T.V. color, rear projection screen, rca tv

Question
The color on our TV is messed up. I went to the converfence for the color. The Yellow and red convergence works, it goes left, right, up nd down. The blue and green convergence cross goes up and down but not left and right. Is there a reason for this? Something I am able to do to fix it or do I need to get a repair man in here. Thanks so much!

Answer
I assume you're talking about an RCA 3-gun CRT rear projection screen.

Can you give more info?
Which RCA TV Model/year are we talking about here?
When did this problem occur?
Are you having any other image issues (suddenly "snapped" out of alignment, loses alignemnt/focus frequently, etc.)?

Without knowing more, I can only suggest one of two possibilities:

1 - Your TV has a cheaper controller that only allows limited motor alignments and this has always been the way you've had to make adjustments.  If all my assumptions hold water, then Yellow and Green are really the same tube.  You need to start by aligning the blue to the green, and then move over to align the red to the "yellow".
This possiblity could be ruled out if your TV never behaved this way before.

2 - you have a fried controller (probably a sync chip) and need to have it serviced.
This would be particularly true if pluge/K/focus/convergence adjustments were different/easier before.  If it's a chip issue, getting it serviced and lined up again usually runs about $400 (hopefully less).
Doing that sort of work is not really for an amateur or the faint of heart (and I mean that literally - THERE'S SOME HIGH-VOLTAGE LURKING IN THERE); but if you know what TTL, CMOS, and "Basic Stamp" mean (and you can give me some more background information on your problem) then perhaps I might be able to recommend some alternatives to calling a technician.

I wish you luck!
