Audio Systems: Putting two 12, dell power supply, kicker comp c12

Question
Hi, do you think I can use a 250 watt dell power supply? I got
one free from a buddy. It's rated at 14 amps and I know that's
not enough but maybe I can drive at least one sub. Just one is
enough to punish neighbors!

Question -
Hi, Mark:

I have two 12" kicker Comp C12's and a KX250.2 amp inside a
specially built vented box. I want to put them in my house and
use them for playing music from my computer, not home
theater. I just want a big boom like I had in my car. The subs are
150 watts each, 300 max, and the amp is 250 watts but rated at
316 watts (I have the test sheet with the  ratings from the
factory).

I have read that I can buy batteries, capacitors, computer PSU's,
and other stuff to run them. Basically I just want to go the
cheapest route.

Thanks for your help!

Answer -
at 316 watts you should be able to run them off the computer
PUS just fine and a cap can't hurt but batteries shouldn't be
nessesary.
at 316 watts times 1.4 % (60% efficiency) divided by 12 volts you
need 37 amps.  the psu here:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-
details.asp?EdpNo=905179&Sku=A107-2000

is rated for 34 amps which is close to all you need and a
capacitor should help even out the peaks to keep the PSU from
shutting off from overload.  it will probably shut off if you push
everythign to the max and keep it there in which case a battery
will help but thats alot of work/cost/danger for little gain. you
can get a 2 farad cap off ebay from power acoustik for like 70
bucks.  if you do use a cap it will be hard to get it charged since
the power supply will see it as a short until it's charged up so
basically that will mean that you will have to keep the Psu on all
the time to keep the cap charged so you dont have to take 5
minutes to charge it everytime you want to use it.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Answer
Well.....
14 amps times 12 volts is 168 watts.  into an amplifier that's at best 60% efficient = 100 watts.  you can get that from 1 channel of a lousy home theater amp.
This is why I dont recomend running high power car stereo amps indoors,  it's fun and all, untill you spend money and it doesnt work.  then its not so much fun anymore.
you wanna piss off your neighbors?  Do it with this thing!!!
