Question
I was wrong it is both left speakers that are not working. Also the display is really dim on the left side do you think the cd player is going bad?

Question -
I have a 1996 Nissan Altima and I was wondering how to get my Front left speaker working. I am not getting any sound out of it what so ever. I cannon seem to remove the Pioneer Cd player from the dash to see if it is just not wired good.
any suggestions

If the other speakers are working properly and this is the only one it is likely the speaker in question is "open".  This can happen when it is overpowered or other damages inflicted upon it.

So, I would recommend you test that speaker first.  Best way to check it is with an ohmmeter or battery.  You must gain access to the wires to that speaker either from the back end of the amplifier or at the door.

The best would be to check it both ways.  It is possible the speaker is bad, but it is also possible the wiring to it has gone open somewhere along the way.

To get to the speaker in the door you must remove the panel and clear it away far enough to get into the speaker mounting screws.  You might be able to get to the wiring without pulling the speaker all the way out; you will have to judge that once you are in behind the door panel.

If you need to pull the head unit out to get to the wiring behind the dash, go to this page for some pictorals:

Answer
Both speakers?  Or do you mean the left front and the left back?

In any event, when we lose sound it is one of the three:

ONE:  Bad speaker - needs replacement.
TWO:  Bad wiring - must be checkout thoroughly for opens and shorts (or in the case of a new installation, for proper termination).
THREE:  Bad head unit/amplifier.

Sometimes it is obvious what the trouble is by just process of elimination. For examle, let's say you did lose the left front speaker.  You would turn the system on and move the balance and fader controls on the head unit so the balance was all the way to the left and the fader was all the way to the front so you can listen only to the left front channel.

In a worst case, you must pull the unit out and bench test it with battery leads to power the unit and separate speaker to check each channel one by one.  If the electronics checks out okey then you know it is either speaker or wiring.  And so on.

You can check a speaker by pulling the speaker wire off the radio and apply a 1.5v battery across the wires; you should hear a clicking sound in the battery.  If no click, the speaker or the wiring may be open circuited.

Hope this help further.
