Audio Systems: eclipse radio install in chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs, rca phono

Question
I have a 1996 chrysler lhs. I've installed an eclipse radio in it. when plugged in, the radio works fine. When I put a c.d. in, it spins and plays, but there's no audio. I called a local install co. and of course they wanted me to take it in. My car has infiniti sound and apparently there's an amp already in the car. The guy on the phone said  there's a trick to installing a cd player in cars with a built in amp. All my wirings correct, i believe, could you please tell me what the trick is.
thank you

Answer
WEll, the trick is to make sure everything is correctly wired up.

Let me understand:  The unit installed works fine on radio?  That is you have full audio in all the speakers when in the radio mode, but when you put in the cd you do not have audio.  Is that correct?

If so, the trouble is in the unit.  Did cds play good before you installed it?  Can you bring the unit out easily and check it on the bench?  Then, you will know if the cd player is working correctly or not. If it plays on the bench but not in the car you know you have a wiring problem.

IF: The audio does not work on any setting, then the outputs of the head unit are not properly connected to the external amplifier (Infiniti).  It should have rca phono plugs on the head unit for audio out as well as phono inputs on the Infiniti amp.  Make sure you have those cables properly installed (that is one of the tricks to overall hookup).

The above shows the wiring scheme for most Chrysler autos.  It may or may not be useful for your Infiniti system, but check it out anyway to see if you have everything wired up correctly.

Then, let me know more if you need additional help.
