Audio Systems: Pioneer car speakers, pioneer car speakers, power amps

Question
Hi there...I was driving along and my two back speakers stopped working (the fronts still work).  I bought new speakers and they don't work.  What do you think?  Wiring?  Fuse?  My stereo is dying?  Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
You did not give me the model numbers so I cannot know for sure what the system entails.

For example: If you have separate power amps driving the fronts and the backs you may have lost the back amplifier.

IF: The unit is self contained with all amps inside the dash mounted head unit you may have lost the internal back amps or the speaker wires were damaged or the connector to the back speaker wires came undone, etc.

SO: You must know what the system is and do some troubleshooting.  Since you replaced the speakers and the new ones did not work you know it is not a speaker failure. So, it must be in the wiring or in the amplifier.

Bringing the unit out of the car and testing it on the bench will tell you if the head unit (and amps) are working properly.  Let me know if you need to know how to do that and I will give you instructions.

PS: There are usually two fuse boxes on most cars; one under the hood and one inside the car under that dash. You must check both.

If you want me to give you more information, give me the make, model and year of the car AND the make and models of the audio system. That way I can investigate the specific details and give you specific information rather than generic as above.
