Audio Systems: CD player, phono inputs, data conversion

Garry,
My CD player is not playing music clearly. There is a loud noise playing over the top of the barely audible music.
I have tried a lens cleaner but without success.

sounds like the problem is in the output buffer amp stage, which is the circuitry that is between the data conversion stage and the outputs. unless you're hooking it up through phono inputs, which aren't designed for that. if you're hooked up properly, i would suggest replacing player, as repairs would be quite expensive.
