Audio Systems: Speaker Whine, radio problem, high pitch

Question
Hi,

I have a problem with my 11-year old Range Rover car stereo. The front left door speakers develop a whine after a few minutes of radio or CD play. This will happen whether the car engine is running or not. It is a high pitch noise which reduces if I disconnect the tweeter speaker but doesn't dissappear. I have checked what wiring I can get at in the doors but haven't removed the radio unit.

Any ideas please?

Thanks,
Murray

Answer
Hi Murray,
First thing to do is isolate the problem before you can identify it.
You will need to access the rear of the radio for this.
Swap the front speaker wires over at the head unit and see if the problem changes doors. If so you have a radio problem and off to the workshop or change it.
If it doesn't then you have a problem in the door, either an amp or bypass as it is present in both main and tweeter.
See how you get on and get back me.
