Audio Systems: Problem with 05 Tahoe stereo, auto mechanics, battery removal

Question
I was listening to a store bought CD, I accidentally hit source, rather than volume, it changed to radio, no big deal, done it before. Well it won't switch back to CD, it will not eject the CD. The screen displays the word info on the left side by the volume knob, and the clock will not keep time if the truck isn't running. All was fine 2 days ago. Dealer wants big money to diagnose it and fix it. Any ideas of what it could be or how to fix it?  Thank you.

Answer
ONE: Dealer is wrong place; they don't know anything about electronics; they are auto mechanics!

TWO: Check your manual and see if there is a reset button or operation. Sometimes it is a small hole where you put a small tool in the hole and push on a hidden button.

THREE:  I think it will need a reset. If there is no reset given in your manual you can reset it this way.  a) If it is a radio unit with anti-theft protection make certain you have the recovery code number. It should have come with the car when new.  This function shuts the radio down when the battery it disconnected and you cannot get it to go again without entering the anti-theft code.  b) Pull the battery's positive cable off such that complete power is removed from the car's electrical system.  c) Wait 1/2 hour and hook it back up.  This will reset all the electronic codes inside the radio.

FOUR: If the battery removal or reset does not restore it to operation it will have to go into a repair shop for examination OR  you can bench test the unit by yourself if you have the electronics skill.  This requires the unit to be pulled from the vehicle and fired up on the bench and diagnosed by getting inside to find out what is going on.

Let me know how it goes with the reset and maybe there are further symptoms that will give additional clues.

PS:  Assume you have checked all the fuses?  There are two or three power lines going into the radio unit; the fact the clock is not staying on indicates there MAY be a fuse that needs replaced.  There are two or three fuse boxes on this vehicle; do you know where they all are?
