Audio Systems: JENSEN MCD 5110 MARINE STEREO, laser diode, marine stereo

Question
I HOOKED MY STEREO UP AND PUT A CD IN IT PLAYED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND ER8 CAME UP ON SCREEN IT WILL NOT PLAY CD AT ALL NOW THE AM FM STEREO PLAYS GREAT

Answer
Yes, it is a pain in the neck, isn't it.  This is a very common failure with all cd players.

Fortunately, they are cheap to replace.  Cheaper than to have them repaired!

This unit is/was available for under $99.  Replacements of similar quality are also available for similar and lower prices.  Installation is not so hard.

The problem is probably a weak - going dead - laser diode which is buried deep inside the optical pickup assembly.  Replacing it will cost at least $100 by the time a tech pulls the covers off, digs out the optics, orders the replacement part and does the realignment procedures.

Let me know if you have further questions.
