on a pioneer car stereo cd player, there is noise in the background which does not increase with increase in the volume. it sounds like static but it is not. there is also a ticking sound as if there is a noisy cd mechanism. most interesting is that the noise exists only on the later song selections of a cd ie. the outside part of the disc.  not heard on amfm radio.  any ideas?  thank you, in advance

I have experienced this alot with "burned" cds.  is this a burned cd from a computer or is it an orriginal pre-recorded type cd?

it is with both types, to an equal extent

Answer
sounds to me like your laser's lens is dirty.  Try a cleaning kit.  I'm not entirely sure why the end of  the cd is more suseptable to the begining but I have seen this many times.  in fact my brother in law consistenly burns me cds that experience this however the cds that I make dont have this problem.  Try burning your cds at a low speed like 4x if the cleaning doesnt help.  as for the pre-recorded cds doing it, again I think your laser is dirty.  if  cleaning and slower burning doesnt help it may just be time for a new unit.

good luck!
