Garry,

I have a 95 Jeep GC with alot of miles.  The Infinty Gold Radio:

Has a high pitch noise on AM with the engine running. I can here interference with th power antenna going up or down.  I have to sort of place a tape in the slot to get the radio to work.  The tape will go in and out by itself if left alone. No tape, the screen shows tape symbol- no radio.  drivers side speakers don't work or sometimes just slightly.  FM is fine.  I would like to replace the unit with an aftermarket since a new Infinity Gold cost is prohibitive.  the amp is behind th front seat.  There are no steering wheel controls.  HELP!!!!

Answer -
the noises can be reduced by attaching condensors (metal capacitors designed to go in a distributer) to the field and output of alternator, for the antenna; mount condensor as close as possible to antenna motor, and for the stereo, i strongly suggest getting exact replacement from a junkyard to eliminate any wiring problems with an aftermarket stereo. if you choose an aftermarket stereo, let the pros do it so everything will work.

Thanks,  What condensor would I use and How do I wire it?

Answer
they're normally boxed in packages that you can physically see the part inside, just get ones that have a mounting clip on the body, and a long enough wire coming out of it so you can mount it to the grounded part of antenna and alternator, (alt. any screw on the body will do,ant, probably just on frame for that and hook wire to power line as close to motor as possible) i just get ones with the longest wire and cut if needed. note... most auto parts cashiers will look at you like you're crazy, but the condensors really do work. on the alternator, just hook the wire to the big output wire (has rubber cap on it and you need a wrench to undo the nut) and mount the body on a screw on the body of alternator nearby. you can do this for electric windows, too, just more difficult as they have to be hooked up and mounted as close as reasonably possible.   whew!! hope this helps, i'll be here.........
