Audio Systems: Alpine cd car stereo, alpine cd, toyota corolla

Question
I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla.  I put in an Alpine CD player in 2002.  No problem till now.  It plays for 1 - 2 songs (radio) when I first start the car then shuts off, no power what-so-ever. Usually won't play again the same day.  Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks for any advice.  Laura

Answer
Could be lots of things, but I would guess it is a thermal cutout in the radio unit.

Do this: Next time it cuts out, pull off the road conveniently, where you can stop the car, turn off the engine and let it rest for a few minutes.  Pull your key out of the ignition for at least 30 seconds.  Then try the radio again (You don't have to start the engine, just turn on the ignition to accessory stage and try the radio).

If it goes, then start the car and see if it remains on.

Experiment a little and then let me know the results.  That will help me to learn what part of the radio or car electric system is acting up.

Additionally, it could be a sensitive fuse.  For this, check the fuses in the two boxes in your car.  There is one inside the engine compartment under the hood and another smaller one inside under the dash between the steering column and the drivers door.  Pull of the lids and with a flashlight find the one marked for radio and wiggle it around - or replace it/them if you think they are not secure.

Then, let me know more after you have experimented and looked at the fuses, etc.
