Audio Systems: No sound, extreme weather conditions, honda accord lx

Question
I have a 1990 honda accord lx factory radio.  The radio was working fine one day then just stopped all together with no sound.  The display lights on radio works but when you channel up or down it locks up.  Every once in a while static will all of the sudden just BLAIR and you cannot shut it off without shutting the car off.  It also has a retractable antenna.  Any ideas.

Answer
Hi David,

Sorry it took so long for someone to answer.  Yup, car radios are usually crap and exposed to extreme weather conditions, dry and wet, hot and cold.  Eventually they all die.  I had the same problem with mine and nothing could fix it.  Soon after the tape player died, then the display got messed up.  My only option is to replace it but I drive so little these days (I live in Portland, Oregon, land of many bicycles) that I just roll down the window and enjoy the sounds of nature (and people!)  Replacement is the only option.  Sorry to deliver the bad news but my guess is you've already replaced it.  Cheers, Wink
