Audio Systems: Problem with the automatic feature of Luxman PD-277 TT, google search, automatic feature

Question
There appears to be a problem with the automatic feature of this Luxman PD-277 Automatic TT (circa 1980-82).

When the automatic feature is selected, the TT starts and the arm plays correctly on the record. However, at the end of playing the record, the TT arm lifts and returns to the tone arm rest. The problem is that after this cycle, the TT arms begins a new cycle and attempts to play the LP again. This same problem, the TT arms begins a new cycle and attempts to play the LP again, is exhibited when the "cut" button is pressed when the TT is in automatic mode. The TT operates fine in manual mode.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Steve

Answer
Boy, it has been a long time since seeing this model.  Has it always worked the way you describe?  It may be that is the way it was designed; to just repeat the same disc until you stop it.

It is way too old to recover the manual for it.  But there are a few forums that talk about this unit.

See the one above; the respondent has a manual that may be available for you.  Also, they are having problems with the automatic feature as well.

If you do a google search on your model you can find a few people who carry parts, manuals, etc.  Mostly in Europe or Japan.  It is now a collectors item with a little bit of a cult following.  Although, from my previous personal experience Luxman was never as good as the Technics sp10 direct drive tt.

You may find someone who can do repairs on it, but it is a long shot. YOu may have to do your own maintenance and upkeep.

Let me know further after studying my comments.
