Audio Systems: Box Holes, drilling holes, spaeker

Question
I have a box for 2 12's and i driled 4 holes in the top to cool my amp they are if at a maximum 1'' by 1''  could this damage my speakers?

Answer
a speaker box needs to be air tight to function properly. by drilling holes in it you ruin the effect of the box.  the box's job is to isolate the front of the spaeker from the back so that waves coming off the rear of the cone dont cancel out the waves coming from the front.  Dont confuse a hole with a port.  a ported in a box isnt just a hole, its a tube wich has a different effect and even a ported box needs to be airtight.  Yes having holes can damage the speakers since they will move more freely now, they can stroke too far and become damaged. do your best to plug the holes as airtight as you can.

are you saying that your amp is inside the speaker box?  if so you should really take it out if you want it to be cooler.

Good luck and tell me how it goes
