Audio Systems: Alpine CDA-9805, alpine cda, electronic failures

Question
hi,
my question is about a jammed cd in the deck. When it is set to radio the eject doesnt work and when on disc it reads ERROR. im not sure how this happened but it worked before and suddenly got jammed. any help or advice would be great.
thanks

Answer
These jamming problems are hard to analyze since the causes can be so difficult to determine.  There are many possibilities.

Most common are mechanical failures, either from wear or abuse of one kind or another, or electronic failures such as the servo control logic contained within one of the IC chips.

The first thing to do is a hard reset.  To do this power must be removed from the unit for 30 minutes.  Best way to do this is to just lift the positive cable off the battery in the car. This kind of problem is cured with a reset about 50% of the time.

HOWEVER: Before you do the reset, determine if the Alpine unit features anti-theft coding.  If so, you must know the code in order to turn it back on after power has been removed.  (I checked the manual quickly while typing this reply and did not find any reference to anti-theft coding.)

Removing power will automatically reset all internal codes and software to factory default conditions when you power it back up.

If that does not clear the operation it means there is an internal problem that must be diagnosed.  It will require a trained tech to do this level of analysis.

Hope this helps.
