Audio Systems: 00 Isuzu Rodeo 6 Disc CD Changer not working properly, isuzu rodeo, laser diodes

Question
I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo with about 64000 miles. My 6 Disc CD changer wont work properly and Its been acting up for about a week. Everytime I try to put a CD it works but then makes a weird noise then it says ERR3 then doesnt even read the CD that its in the CD Changer. I tried ejecting them back out but it wont eject anything cuz it doesnt read that there are any CD's.

Answer
Yes, this is a not so uncommon occurence. It is caused by a weak laser diode, a badly aligned optical pick up system or a defective digital decoder.

The repair is usually quite expensive.  Sometimes greater than purchasing a new unit or adding an external cd player.  See this site for some OEM fitting changers that might be of interest.

There are other possibilities such as adding an iPod or mp3 player that feeds into your fm radio.  An iPod will hold many more tunes than the cd changer; as will an mp3 player.

Sorry you are having this problem with a relatively new unit.  But, Laser Diodes are manufactured in a very statistical environment and some last forever and others poop out after a few hundred hours of play.

Hope this helps.
