Audio Systems: AM signal Problem, antenna connections, fm signals

Question
Hi I have a 2003 Honda Civic that i recently changed the Head Unit in. I am having AM radio reception problems and have switched out severall different Units and they seem to still have that same problem. With FM/CD everything is fine. with AM i would need to turn the volume to MAX to be able to hear the station properly. is this a car problem? or HU problem? thankyou

Answer
If you got the same result with two or more head end units I would say it is an antenna problem.

Maybe grounding of the antenna, broken wire inside one of the connectors, etc.  Things like this may not effect the FM signal so much because of the high frequency nature of FM signals.  AM is much lower in frequency and cannot get through bad connections and broken wiring like FM.

So, go through the antenna connections carefully; replace the cabling from the antenna and check the ground connections carefully.  I think you will find the problem that way.

Hope this helps.
