Audio Systems: dime in six disc changer, positive cable, disc changer

Question
I have a dodge '05 6 disc changer. My kid put a dime in the unit. I took out the unit, got the dime out. The unit still doesn't work, it won't eject cd's and makes an odd buzzing sound. Each time you apply power to the unit, the buzzing sound repeats three times and then quits. Is there any code, or a way to reset the unit? I pulled the main power plug, that didn't work. Is it toast because of the dime, or is there a way to fix it?

Answer
Yes, try a reset.  This is done by removing power from the unit for at least 1/2 hour. Best way is to pull the positive cable from the car battery.  This will kill power to the unit - and everything els in the car - and make it reset electronically.

If the problem is mechanical, the reset won't help.  You may have to replace the mechanism - which will cost about the same as a new unit.

Also, be careful pulling the battery cable as the unit will go into anti-theft mode if the unit has that feature.  Unless you have the entry code for new power you will never get the unit going again until you retrieve the anti-theft data code.

Life is complicated now days!

Hope this helps, but let me know if you need more.
