Audio Systems: Pioneer stereo, bench test, pioneer stereo

Question
I was driving in my car and my pioneer DEH-P3700MP cd player cut off, i had it for a year and it is in very good shape, what should I try to look at, is the fuse blown or what, its really pissing me off and I cant afford to buy a new one.

Answer
First check the fuses; there may be three different fuses involved.  One in the box under the hood; another in a smaller box under the dash (usually mounted between the steering column and the door area); and one inline with the power wire feeding the 12v to the unit.

Check for them all.

Next, you may have to pull the unit and check it out on the bench; that way you can know if you are dealing with a bad unit or with bad wiring or car problems.

TO bench test it, attach long wires from the battery to the unit (after you have removed it from the car; go to www.installdr.com for install/removal instructions if it is a couple of years old this site will have info on it).

When you get it powered up, connect one stand-alone speaker to one amp; then go from one amp to another, etc. until you have tested the unit on all channels, etc.  Then, you will know if the head unit is healthy or not.

Let me know if you have another question.
