Audio Systems: No dam sound!, internal fuse, short circuits

Hi there got question. Ran into a problem with my system its not playing any sound however everything else works on the head unit even the sounds from touching the control buttons but it doesn't play volume. Also the amp has a power source but the light doesn't show that its on. Am confused and fustrated and hope you might have some advice and help. Much appreciated thanks!

Without the make and model number I can only give you general information.

If the amp is not powering up that will make it pretty difficult for the speakers to put out any sound!  Check the power to the amp.  If there is no light that means either no power on the line to the amp(or the source) OR the amp is defective internally.  

If power really is getting to the amp and still no lights it could mean an internal fuse is gone (caused by internal short circuits that blow the fuse!)

Get yourself a vom at Walmart for $9.83 and you can easily measure the voltage on the power lines, etc.  Then you will know for sure.....
