Audio Systems: No sound, fuse boxes, internal fuse

Question
I have a 2000 Camry factory radio/CD/tape and the sound would cut out for minutes or hours but now the sound is gone completely.  The visual display works including station changing and you can tell the CD is working as you can see the seconds elapsing but no sound whatever.  Both radio fuses are good and there is no short or lose wire that I saw when I removed the unit from the dash.  Could it be a faulty speaker that causes all the speakers to quit, an internal radio component such as a capacitor or some other problem?

Answer
There are two fuse boxes in your car (in addition to any fuses in the feed lines to the unit). One is under the hood and the other inside under the dash.

It is more likely the power amplifier section of the unit has gone bad.  OR, something simple such as a mute function being activated.

Here is what you can do:  Do a reset of the unit.  This is done  by removing the positive cable on the battery of the car.  THis will totally disable all car functions.  Leave it disconnected for 30 minutes.

When you connect the battery again, be sure the radio unit is OFF.  Then when the battery is connected, try it again.

If it still does not work it is likely the unit has failed internally.  The amplifier is powered from an internal inverter that may have failed.  I don't think there is an internal fuse, but you can look for one.  Removing your radio is not so hard; see:

Chances are you will end up just replacing the unit with a new one.  After all, it is about 6 years old and getting tired, for sure.

Hope this helps.
