Audio Systems: Mach IV 460, ford mustang gt, mach iv

Question
I have a 1995 Ford Mustang GT with a Mach IV 460 sound system  Right now the CD player cuts on and off constantly,  without a CD inserted, (about every 25-30 seconds) when the system is powered up.  If you insert a CD it plays fine.  When the radio is on, it will play fine till the CD system cuts on and then off.  Have had it at two Stero shops and they both tell me that the whole system needs to be replaced.  Stereo AM/FM, CD unit, wiring and speakers as the Mach IV system and components dont operate with another curretn technology stereo system.

Two questions...1.)  Do you have any ideas where I could find a Mach IV 460 system to replace the one I have.....2.)  Do you agree with the stereo shops that the whole system, down to wiring and speakers, need to be replaced?

Thanks

Answer
OK, great posting, lots of info! So the sound cuts out during radio operation, but not during CD operation? Or does the radio actually shut on and off during radio operation? I'm thinking this is just a simple radio antenna issue. If the radio only looses radio reception, I would try a new antenna with cable, pluged in to test, with radio removed from the dash. The next factor could be the tuner inside the radio. if so, replacing it is not really that big a deal. You could get a replacement from e-bay, and many companies (http://www.autosound2000.com/) make adaptors to make aftermarket decks work with your system.
