Audio Systems: cds wont play, car cd player, cd mp3 player

I cannot get any cd's to play in my car cd player.  It is a Jenson MP3310 cd/mp3 player.  When I insert a cd, it switches to cd player mode, waits about 15 seconds and displays error 1.  I tried pressing the reset button.  I don't have a manual because I bought it off of a friend, so I can't figure out what error 1 means.  If you have any suggestions on how I could fix it or if I should purchase a new system, then please let me know.

The error code simply means it is not playing the disc.

Do a hard reset and maybe that will clear it up.  This is done by removing power completely from the player for 30 minutes; then power it up again.

If that does not help, try it under bench test (rather than in the car; you can run power from the car battery over to it and just hook up one speaker to listen, but independent of the car).

However, I must tell you the most common cause of this problem is a weak laser diode or badly aligned optical pickup; both cases in which are expensive repairs.
