Audio Systems: Honda CRV Audio System, honda crv, laser diode

Question
The CD player will only play a few moments before flashing the word "DISC" on an off and it will no longer play the CD. I used a CD cleaner and that did not solve the problem.
Have you heard of this before?
Thanks,
Jim

Answer
Yes, very common for all cd players.

It can be a dirty lense on the optical pickup or a weak laser diode among several possibilities.

Clean the lense off by using a cotton Q-Tip; just flick the q-tip across the lens several times; this will knock off the microscopic particles that may have gotten attached to it.

Replacing a laser diode will be more expensive than just replacing the whole head end unit.

Also, a defective digital decoder or other internal electronic failures are very expensive to repair.

If the set is under warranty, they should cover it.

Otherwise, its off to the audio shop.

Try going for an mp3 or iPod compatible unit; that way you can have many times more music tunes than with a single or changer cd player.
