Audio Systems: Car radio problem- goes on and off, zillion times, radio problem

Question
The whole radio goes off momentarily, then comes back on seconds later. (radio & cd). I've been trying to see if anything made it more likely ro happen or if it is random. It may happen more as or when I am stopping, and might be more likely to occur when it rains. Occurance varies a lot- may do it a zillion times one day & then not at all for several days.

Question -
My car radio power blinks on and off. Do I need the radio reinstalled (It's fairly new- Kenwood) or is it a problem wiht the antenna, which appears to be in rathe rough shape. 1995 BMW 318 IC (convertible).

Not sure what you mean.

Does the set actually switch OFF and back ON?  If so, probably a loose connection of the power line or ground wires.

Or, is it the audio that is fading out and in when listening only to FM?  If so, it could be the antenna wiring.

Or, does is it only when listening to a cd?  In which case it is likely to be tracking of the cd player circuitry.

If you can give me a more precise description of the problem I can verify which of the above may be at play.

Well, I still don't know the make and  model of the unit and wether the cutting out is FM only or CD only or any function.

IF ON FM:  It is likely the antenna; you will have to visual it and check the antenna wiring and ground connections.

IF CD:  It is a tracking phenomenon and relates to the errors on the disk and the bumpiness of the road.

IF AM:  We are back to an antenna problem, most likely.
