Audio Systems: Froze cd player, jbl speaker, power wires

Question
I have a 6 CD exhanger. After trying to insert the second CD, the player froze up and will not do anything.  The disc "1" flashes and will not eject nor allow me to load another CD.  The brand is JBL OEM on 2003 Camry.  Does anybody out there does solve this kind of problem?

Answer
Yes, I know it well.

The reset could cure it, but I give it only a 25% chance.  To reset you must pull the main power wire that feeds the unit and let it set unpowered for a few minutes.  It is not easy to get under the dash and find the power wires, but you can get some help at www.installdr.com.

If reset does not help. The repair is very expensive because it is the built in dash version; repairs involve pulling the entire head end unit out and putting it on the bench.  The repair is always expensive.

In the above case I recommend you replace the entire head unit with a new one; maybe get one with iPod or mp3 capability as this is the new way; CD is sort of on its way out for car use in the future.

The good news is you can get an iPod out of the deal, get better sound and more tunes, many more, smaller space and cheaper overall investment by going for the new unit.

PS: The jbl speaker system is pretty good; leave it alone; just get a new head end unit.
