Audio Systems: Dead Cable?, marshall amps, fender strat

Question
I plugged in my Fender Strat into my travel 10 watt Kustom amp. Sad thing is nothing came from is no sound came from it. We went on a trip and the equipment got kinda hot and when i played their was fuzz in the sound like the cable was about to short out. This happened before and it was the cable. I think its the cable because it happened before. Just asking for  a second opinion

Answer
i have a feeling what it is, but first verify the guitar and cable. i'm sure guitar's fine, but you need to make sure first, plug it into something else. same with the cable, or just check it end to end with an ohmmeter. i really feel, however, that the output device, (a 5-8 legged large transistor looking device mounted on a heat sink, at the rear of the main board inside amp. especially with small fender and marshall amps, these blow quite often, i used to keep a dozen each of the many types used. they are quite inexpensive, but you must have good de-soldering and soldering tecniques to do it sucessfully without damaging circuit board. i used to charge about $50 total to change them out. also... don't re-use the heat sink compound between the output and heat sink, get a small tube when you get output, clean old compound off with alcohol and apply a small amount of fresh compound to back of output before mounting.   good luck....
