Answer
The blessing of a protection circuit is it avoids further damage to the system from short circuits.

The curse of protection circuits is you have no way of knowing which of the 8 or 10 sections of the tv circuitry is the culprit.

It requires troubleshooting and diagnosis by one who knows how to defeat the protection and methodically go after the probable causes until it is found.

The problem is, in over 80% of cases, severe and expensive.  Most common is failure of the high voltage or the main power supply.

I would, however, refer you to a private web site that has much information about your model that may help.  Service manual information and such is available at this site.

(If you have a popup killer on your pc, activate it because there are ad popups on the site.)

NOW: Here is my wild guess. Since you heard some random popping noise it is possible they are associated with the failure.  If the popping noise came from inside the set (rther than over the speakers) it could be power supply electrolyic caps breaking down.  If the sound came from only the speaker system it could be the IC that pulls the audio from the audio detector. In either case, the cost of the replacement parts is not great, but the labor to diagnose and get at the parts may be time consuming.

I have never heard of a repair less than $200 on a big screen set.

HOWEVER: Before doing anything, give it a hard reset by unplugging the power cord for 4 hours.  Sometimes this will bring it back to life.
