Question
Um, i have no experience porting a box, and it would be cool to get some CORRECT directions, which im not so sure about some plans, it would be nice to have one recommended by u, um, about those    p2 12 inch 4ohm subs, my friend is looking for an amp for them, what do you suggest that will sound good, but be about the cheapest?  Any idea how much it would cost to make a good ported box?!?!? cuz i already have a sealed one, and free is cheaper! lol, but i am strongly thinking about makeing one, just need the right way.

Hi, this isnt really a follow up, i just used it to find your address, but i just got 2 p210s8's,   http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=3
I have the pioneer 7100 m, which is 800 watt max mono amp, i was wondering for one how good of a set up u think that is, but most importently, my friend told me that he thinks that i should port my box for better sound, how is it going to effect the sound, and if i should do it, where can i get instruction to port it out.  Plus, give me the pros and cons of porting, thank you, and what other box types would make it sound the best?-    and aside from that , my friend just got 2 p212, and they are 4 ohm, and he is looking for the cheapest amp that will work good with those subs, he want great sound, and a cheap price, any suggestions?!?!?!  THANKS A TON

Question -
I have an 800 watt pioneer amp, and i am going to be borrowing my friends subs for a few days.  Im not sure how many ohms my amp is supposed to use, but i do know that the subwoofers are two ohms.  Can u explain how i have to wire them if it takes 4,6,8 ohms, because i dont want to burn up my amp, and im not sure how to wire to make it right.

I would say that if you dont know what you have here you shouldnt hook it up.  just googling the model of the amp along with the word "specs" usually return the specs of the amp and ohms will be in there. Borrowing someons stuff and hooking it up when you dont know if they are a good match is a very bad idea.  even if you only give your amp a 16 ohm load, your amp will be fine but if you're cliping the signal because your high ohms means the voltage is being exceeded, you could damage the subs.  I've blown 400 watt speaekrs on 50 watts this way TRUST ME!!
Most amps will run a 4 ohm load even when bridged. just run the 2 subs in series to make a 4 ohm load.
Most amps will not "burn up" and break on a high load, they will get hot and shut off.  keep an eye on it.  most amps will get hot even when you are pushing them hard under the correct ohms so again, just put your hand on it once in a while.  if you run it real loud for 20 min or so it may get too hot for you to leave your hand on and this is about where it will shut off if you keep pushing it. so use that as a guide.
Good luck!

personally I'm a pretty big fan of porting when done properly.  Its more of a musical prefrence.  A port has a "tuning" frequency.  think of this as a freqency range where its set to help out.
You can place this where you want to make certain freqencies louder.  the thing to remember about the tuning freqency is you will get practically no sound deeper than the port is tuned to.  so if you tune the port up around 45hz, your 45 will be very loud but you will have no bass around 30hz and the speaker could be flopping around out of control at 30hz as well.  so you dont want to go too high unless you just want it blaringly loud and dont care about what it sound like quality wise.  Personally I would tune the port around 33-35 hz for these.  fosgate recomends 40 but I think thats too high because a 10" sub can produce plenty of 40hz all by itself without a port so that doesnt need enhancing but a 10 cant do so well around 30-35 so thats where I would place the port to help where the sub needs it.  ported boxes are larger and more difficult to build.  they usually sound great for rap and music that has deep bass notes that "drone" on for a few seconds or so.
Sealed boxes are easier to build and smaller and usually have a better "punch" to them.  music like techno, rock, punk, stuff that has a punchy beat but not deep droning bass notes sound good in sealed boxes.
that amp is an ok match for these subs.  it wouldve been better if the subs for 4 ohm.  they will get 120 watts each with this amp which is a little low.  again a ported design will be good since you have less power.
Need help on building the box?  dimensions, etc?  do you have box building experience or are you going to have someone build it for you?
Let me know!

Answer
ok well if you want me to help you build a box you are going to need to pay me alot of money......  ok just kidding.  I'm in a weird mood today.
why dont you send me a private message with your email.  I want to graph the responce of these speakers and show you the difference between the sound of the sealed and some ported options.
To build a ported box properly you will need acess to a tablesaw (hand held saws of any kind wont cut it (no pun intended) you will need a nearby homedepot or some place that carries a material called 3/4 MDF  preferably in 2'x4' sheets although its available in 4'x8' but its very hard to handle like that.  If you dont have access to the tablesaw I would drop the project. Unless you want to buy one!!
you will probly end up spending around 50-70 bucks for materials especially if you get flared ports and dont use cheap pvc for your ports,  the flared ports are far superior for sound so I highly recomend them.  Once I have your email I'll plot out some examples, we'll pick one, I'll give more detail, etc.

for your friend,  the biggest bang for the buck amp I would say is the boss chaos 1200m seen here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BOSS-CH1200M-MONO-CHANNEL-AMPLIFIER-AMP-CH-1200W_W0QQite

I'm making this recomendation BASED on the description of the sub you gave me as being 2 fosgate punch stage2 4ohm SINGLE voicecoil subs. if its anything other than that this wont be the right amp.

only $120 bucks for 600 watts  it should have plenty of power, might not be the cleanest sounding thing in the world but you said cheap and that's about as good as you can get cheap.

look forward to hearing from you.
