Question
yes, im the brother of the person that asked but the problem is that my factory radio for my car has a factory amp in it and i dont know how to by-pass it. so when i try to hook up my after-factory kenwood , its shorting my fuses because the speaker wire from my radio is trying to send power to the amp which it cant take therefore shorting off my fuses and putting my kenwood at risk.ive tried taking the amp out but the speakers wont work at all then and i've even bought the right radio harness wires for the after-factory radio.so in detail if you could, please give me an idea what can be done. i would greatly appeciate it?......

Question -
My brother has a 1989 Merecury Grand Marquis and he wants to install an aftermarket stereo and amp and speakers.  He knows a little bit about car installations but has ran into a problem with an built in amp for that car.  Im not sure if it is an amp, but he says that when he ties his speakers into that built in amp his stereo shorts out.  This so called amp is in the truck next to the rear right speaker.  Do you have ne clue on how to by pass this factory amp or have nstructions on how to install a stereo on this paticular car. Ne feedback would be appreciated

"Do a proper job”, is my first thought on the subject. Seats out, de-trim, strip out ALL the old EOM stuff and fit new amps, speakers, subs and head unit, re-wire from scratch with oxygen free cables and go wild!

BUT, back to Earth

An amp is a fairly basic bit of kit, input from head unit normally via RCA leads, some time they come with a speaker leads option (low power) inputs as on my 1995 Sound-Labs, one per speaker, 12vdc power from battery, 12v signal from head unit, an earth lead and a pair of wires out to a speaker, either one per corner plus sub or in pairs as in rears to one amp, fronts to another with 2 x RCA and 4 x speaker wires to Left and Right.

In my show car I only have one 4ch x 125W amp for 2 x 8” three way rears and a bridged 10” sub and one 2ch x 100 amp for 2 x 6 three way ¼” fronts a pair of cross over with 2 x 2” tweeters in a small hard top two seater. Hmmm nice. Mounting the speakers is one of the most important things on a installation, nothing worse than a vibrating speaker frame.

Answer
If you have a normal head unit with say 4 x 40w or 45w output and you take the two wires from say, front left, directly to the front left speaker it will work unless they have blown out and shorted their coils. Does the factory set up still work if you re-install it?.
If it is an factory amp. and not a cross over you have ???? then the new head unit has it's own 40 or 45 w amps built in and unless you need 100w per channel then the head unit should be enough for most people outside the head banging fraturnity so just take the speaker wires directly from head unit to speakers, forget the so called factory amps, if that's what they are, they are no longer needed as they are only for head units that dont have built in amps such as the Pioneer DEX800 on my show car, it just has 4 RCA outs and a remote RDS tuner, (oldie but a goodie).
