Audio Systems: cd unit reset, fuse block, memory settings

Question
Hi Mark,
I have just wired in a cd player which came out of my MKII VW Golf
and put it into my MKIII VW Golf. I had no problem with the player
either in installation or operation in the MKII. It seemed a simple
enough job to transfer it to MKIII but every time the ignition is
switched off and then turned on again the disk is ejected and the
sound settings etc are reset. Help!

Answer
there is a separate wire that is responsable for this.  the MKIII might not have this wire.  You really should get a meter for this.  you need to find a wire that is always on even when the key is out.  if you cant find one you will need to run one directly from the battery or the fuse block.
Usually this will go to the yellow wire on an aftermarket cd player.  there should be a black wire for ground, a red wire for switched power (only on when key is turned) and then there should be this (usually yellow) wire that has power all the time to retain memory, settings etc.
If you need help on getting or using the meter I can help with that. or if you just need more help please dont hesitate to write back.
Good luck!
