Question -
OK I see.  The way the wiring is set up makes it seem like its only the bose sub that's powered by the bose amp.  Well its all good then I will replace the speakers all around then.  Are they hard to find? What do you recommend.  Thanks a lot

I'm just going to follow your advice then.  What i Think ill do is use the bose speakers in the front and rear doors and cancel out that sub that's in the back, and getting a 10 inch sub with an amp hooked up to the head unit for bass.  can the kenwood power the standard bose speakers in the doors ok?  what do you think?  thanks for your answer it was helpful.

Question -
I have the 01 TL. I just put in a kenwood head unit.  However, it sounds a lot weaker than the standard Bose unit.  Can i add an amp to help power the standard bose speakers?  Did i have to bypass an bose amp? I would really appreciate your help.

Answer -
OH boy!  Bose factory systems are the worst for trying to do any modifications.  I always recomend just gutting the entire system and starting over.  the speakers are usually 1 ohm so bypassing the factory amp and connecting those speakers to your head unit will just make the head unit overheat and burn up and certainly wont be louder.  If you can find a 1 ohm stable full range amp you could use that instead of the bose amp but I dont think you'll have much luck finding one and by the time you shell out that amount of cash for a hard to find amp like that you couldve bought a nice normal fosgate amp or something and a new set of component speakers that would work with the new amp.
If you want help on any of this I'd be happy to help but unfortunatly you're a little stuck with what you have unless you take it all out and start over.

I'm sorry, I dont think we're understanding eachother somewhere here.  Your reply said you want to follow my advice and use the bose speakers, but my advice was to get rid of the bose speakers.  My advice said that connecting them to the head unit will make the head unit overheat.  I wasnt just refering to the bose sub that needs to go, I was refereing to every speaker in every location, and you will need to run your own wires from all of the speakers directly to the kenwood so that you are sure you are bypassing the bose amp.
I'm not sure if I'm not understanding you or the other way around,  either way I appologize.
Let me know what you want to do.

Answer -
So you realize if you change the speakers you will have to pull all new wiring to them.
My recomendation would be based on your budget and your needs as far as volume, quality and how much you are willing to work on your car.
The sub will have to go as well so are you going to do a new sub?   if so how much trunk space can you devote?

Let me know.

Answer -
Either sub should be fine as long as you DONT try and use both of them!  that would sound terrible.  personally I dont like square subs so I would use the alpine.  there are a few different versions of this sub,  I'm basing my recomendation on the 500 watt RMS dual 4 ohm model.
You'll need an amp to run the sub, I recomend this one:

I would recomend 2 sets of these to replace all door speakers:

They should be run with an amp as well,  I recomend this one:

the sub will need a box and you'll need about $70-100 for wiring.  If this is all way too much let me know, it's a great system though.

Answer
I recomended 2 amps.  the mono one is for the alpine type R.  the 4 channel one is for running the 4 door speaker sets.  your car apparently can take 6.5" door speakers but the depth when when window is down is very shallow so getting 6.5"s wont fit right even though your cutout is for 6.5" speakers.  The 5 1/4s have a more shallow depth so they will fit.  I would spend the extra $20 a set and get them from crutchfield since crutchfield will give you free mounting brackets for your car to adapt from 6.5 down to 5 1/4.  they will also give you a step by step diagram specific to your car for how to take the door apart and everything you need, free. when you buy the speakers from them first click "find what fits my car" and fill it out.  then you will get all the extra stuff for your car free.
