Audio Systems: audio system 1990 corvette, high pitch sound, rear speakers

I have a 1990 corvette with a Bose system.  
There is a high pitch sound coming from the rear speakers.  After inserting a cassette, there is nothing but the same high pitch noise. Please advise.  Thanks, Tom

I recommend you take it into a local repair/install shop who can look at it.

Do not take it to a car dealer's service shop as they know nothing about the entertainment system.

If the sound is coming from the rear speakers only and the fronts are working fine it may be a problem with the rear amplifier.  But, it is not something trivial; you still need a tech to look at it and give you the diagnosis.

If the system is the original unit from when the car was new it means the Bose system is now 16 years old.  No wonder something is give up on it; they rarely last this long! Perhaps you should think about putting in a whole new system!
