Audio Systems: cd player into a 91 lincon town car, lincon town car, wiring harnesses

Question
i have a 91 lincon town car and it has a stock tape deck in it. i have a cd player from my old car, and cant match up the colors of the two. HELP!

Answer
Don't try matching colors; they often have nothing to do with the right connections.

The best and only acceptable way to handle these old transfers is to get an ohmmeter and check them out one by one making sure you know exactly which wire goes where.  A best way is to identify the wires going to each speaker and tag them with a piece of tape so you now irrevocably the wiring to the speakers.

You can purchase a simple but totally acceptable VOM at Walmart for $9.83.  Radio Shack and other places likewise have them. They are easy to use and invaluable in checking the wiring and the 12 volt feeds to the new install.

This site is for a 1989 Lincoln Continnental, but I think it might be the same; you can check it out.

There are wiring harness kits available from

will show you wiring harnesses for your car........

But, you still must be very careful to check out the wiring with an ohmmeter so you know exactly for sure which wire is going where.  If you make a mistake it can cost plenty (it usually blows out all the outputs and you have to start over again).

So, be careful.
