Audio Systems: Bad AM performance., ford suv, turn signals

Question
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer, which has the original radio that came with the Ford SUV.  The FM portion of the radio works just fine, but the AM portion is terrible.  When I used the turn signals, I hear the ticking of the turn signal on the radio.  When I hit the brake pedal I hear a little ticking sound on the radio.  Just all-around poor AM performance for the radio.  Things such as slight static, and weak stations.  But if I shut off the car it clears up hundred percent.  What could possibly cause this problem?  I know a thousand things, but I got to start somewhere.

Can you help me fix this problem?

Tim

Answer
HI:
if you have a normal style antenna the ground is bad on the radio and it is taking bad ground from the antenna or chasis of the vehicle

if the antenna is on the window there is a small electronic module behind the plastic pannel
same ground problem
check the antenna conections or to see if there is any rust around it
you can also check the ground of the battery that is going to chassis
good luck
