Audio Systems: replacing stock radio with new radio, stock radio, radio controls

We have a 99 Ford Explorer with the same radio display problem that it seems that many others have. You have recommended to others to replace the radio rather than fix it. Our Explorer has radio controls on the steering wheel and the multi disk cd changer. If we replace the radio will these things still work? We have been told that they will not. Thanks

PIE makes an interface to keep your steering wheel controls working with an aftermarket deck. As for the factory CD changer, yes that would not work. If you really want to fix the Ford deck, be my guest. It will take a long time, be expensive, and you will end up with exactly what you have; a Ford cassette deck.
