Audio Systems: car audio, ohm speakers, premium sound system

Question
I have a 2002 Grand Prix GTP.  The vehicle has a bose premium sound system in it.  I have instaled alot of stereos in vehicles in the past with no problems, but this car is another story.  I hooked up the after market stereo, but I was not getting any sound at all?  This vehicle has a small factory amp between the two rear speakers in the trunk.  I told that I had to do diffrent things by diffrent people, car audio shops.  1 You have to buy all new speekers for your vehicle.  2 You need to run a REM wire to the factory amp.  This is a good idea but what wire is what?  And how dose the unid get its power?  3 There's no way to put an after market stereo in your car.  What can I do?  I have a Memphis 1200e amp, and a Memphis dual 4 15 along with a Pioneer deck; and don't wanna have it just sitin aaround.

Answer
The person that said you have to change out all the speakers is pretty much correct.  these systems are very propreitary.  the speakers are usually 1 ohm speakers so trying to hook them up to your head unit or even a 4 channel amp will just make them overheat.  To make it even worse is that the first thing to fail in these systems is the amp (probably from having to run a 1 ohm load all the time!)  and the wires that are in the door speakers dont go to the head unit location, they go to this amp hidden somewhere in the vehicle!  Basically what that all boils down to is rip it ALL out and start over.
New speakers all around.  run your own wires from each speaker directly to the head unit location bypassing the crumby amp.  New aftermarket head unit.  Its even recomended to run new wires for battery, ground and power for the head unit.
There are plenty of adapters and work arounds that atempt to patch in after market stuff to these systems but you know what? you've got alot of nice equipment, why comprimise the way it will perform by using the factory junk.  Trust me, Bose doenst make quailty stuff at all.  any audiophile will vouch for that.  Just scrap it and start over, you will be very happy you did.  I recomend a set of polk DB5250 components for the front and a set of DB 650s for the rear.  To keep up with the 4 15 I definatly recomend an amp on the door speakers or they will just distort and get drownd out.  something like this:

I know its not what you wanted to hear but its the truth, and you'll kick butt over any factory bose system!
Good luck and please keep me in the loop as to how it goes.  Id really like to know what you do with it.
See ya!
